Barone Consulting Sponsors American Heroes Ball at the National Press Clubs

Washington, DC (October 9, 2012) – Barone Consulting is proud to be a participating sponsor of the 2nd Annual American Heroes Ball being held Veterans’ Day Weekend 2012 at the National Press Club. All proceeds from the Ball will go to benefit Not Alone; a nationwide non-profit that provides programs, resources, and services to warfighters and families impacted by combat stress and PTSD. Following on from last year’s successful event, the 2012 American Heroes Ball has partnered with Not Alone to raise awareness of the thousands of wounded and ill veterans who have served our country so faithfully in recent overseas operations. Not all injuries are physical in nature. Individual tickets may still be purchased.
Not Alone was founded in 2008 to help returning warfighters and their families adjust to transitioning out of combat. They provide program, resources, and services to warfighters and family members impacted by combat stress and PTSD through a confidential and anonymous community. Not Alone is for everyone whose live are impacted by the battlefield experience.

Both the mission of Not Alone and the efforts of the American Heroes Ball overlap with the core beliefs of Barone Consulting. With strong roots in the military, defense industry and among the warfighter community – we are all too aware that the battlefield experience does not end when one transitions out of the theatre. We continue to support the efforts of these and related organizations. Part of having a strong military means taking care of our warfighters and their families. We are all the same community.

Barone Consulting Awarded DARPA BLADE Phase 2 SETA Support Task Order

Barone Consulting’s, RF communications systems expertise called on by DARPA I2O to provide systems engineering support and technical assistance to the BLADE cognitive electronics warfare program.
Washington, DC (September 26, 2012) – The U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), through the Information Innovation Office (I2O), has awarded Barone Consulting, a $635K task order for the Behavioral Learning for Adaptive Electronic Warfare (BLADE) Phase 2 Program, systems engineering, and technical assistance (SETA) support effort.

“Barone Consulting is proud to continue its longstanding support of truly innovative research and development efforts on behalf of DARPA and their DoD clients,” said Kevin Barone, President and CEO of Barone Consulting. “With the DARPA BLADE program, our expertise in RF communications systems and military electronics warfare made us the right choice to advance BLADE from a Phase 1 proof-of-concept to a Phase 2 hardware-in-the-loop simulation.”

The BLADE Program is developing the capability to counter new and dynamic wireless communication threats in tactical environments; enabling a shift from today’s manual-intensive lab-based countermeasure approach to an adaptive, in-the-field systems approach. The program is achieving this by developing novel machine learning algorithms and techniques that can rapidly detect and characterize new radio threats, dynamically synthesize new countermeasures, and provide accurate battle damage assessment based on over-the-air observable changes in the threat.Under this task order Barone Consulting will provide subject matter experts responsible for overseeing the technical development of machine learning algorithms, development of supporting hardware testbeds, and execution of the Phase 2 final testing and evaluation activity. Lockheed Martin Advanced Technologies Laboratories in Cherry Hill, NJ, and BAE Systems in Nashua, NH, have been selected as the BLADE Phase 2 performers.

Additionally, Barone Consulting will play a key role in developing the performance metrics used by DARPA to assess the successful completion of Phase 2 objectives and guide the selection of a Phase 3 performer in early 2014.

The work for the BLADE Program was awarded under a task order to Shafer Corporation’s DARPA/I2O contract vehicle. All work will be completed onsite at DARPA’s new headquarters in Arlington, VA, over the next 18-24 months.

Founded in 2009, Barone Consulting provides system engineering and technical assistance services to the Department of Defense and the intelligence community. They provide a cadre of elite subject matter experts to the government in support of game-changing, cutting edge technologies that help performers bridge the “valley of death” between R&D and fielded tactically relevant products. DARPA ULTRA-Vis Phase 3 SETA Task Order Awarded to Barone Consulting

Washington, DC (May 14, 2012) – The U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), through the Information Innovation Office (I2O) has awarded Barone Consulting a $576K task order contract for the Urban Leader Tactical Response, Awareness & Visualization (ULTRA-VIS) Phase 3 Program, systems engineering and technical assistance (SETA) support effort.
“With Phase 2 of ULTRA-Vis we showed that computer vision can dramatically improve the quality of head tracking. We likewise showed a drastic reduction in size, weight and power over our Phase 1 prototype display. We’re excited to see these two technologies mature further into a fully deployable system for our elite warfighters.” said Kevin Barone, president and CEO of Barone Consulting.

The Urban Leader Tactical Response, Awareness and Visualization (ULTRA-Vis) program has developed a prototype tactical augmented reality system for use by Soldiers in the field. The ULTRA-Vis system overlays full-color graphical iconography onto the local scene observed by the Soldier. To enable this capability, the program developed and integrated a light-weight, low-power holographic see-through display with a vision-enabled position and orientation tracking system.

Using the ULTRA-Vis system, a Soldier can visualize the location of other forces, vehicles, hazards and aircraft in the local environment even when these are not visible to the Soldier. In addition, the system can be used to communicate to the Soldier a variety of tactically significant (local) information including imagery, navigation routes, and alerts.

The task order calls for Barone Consulting to provide subject matter experts responsible for overseeing the technical development of prototype holographic displays, and state of the art computer vision algorithms to enhance GPS and inertial sensor positional information. Barone Consulting will also be responsible for oversight of the full color see-through display research and computer vision algorithms as well as the system integration of 5-off prototype systems for the USAF. Applied Research Associates in Raleigh NC and BAE Systems from Rochester UK have been selected as the ULTRA-Vis Phase 2 performers.

The work for the ULTRA-Vis program, which was awarded under a task order to Booz Allen Hamilton’s DARPA/I2O contract vehicle, will be completed onsite at DARPA’s headquarters in Arlington, VA over the next 18-24 months.
